Wellby is a community-led initiative that’s helping the people of Nelson Tasman to better connect to their communities, and improving their wellbeing.
Wellby does this in three simple ways…
- Hosting Talking Cafés: Everyone is welcome for a cuppa and kai, and a relaxed chat with Signposters who use the Found Directory to talk about what’s going on in the community and what resources are available, starting other people’s journey to connect with others. Talking Cafés are advertised in It’sOn or you can call (03) 546 7681.
- Promoting the Found Directory: Signposters help others find what they need on the easy-to-use searchable online Found Directory of more than 1,200 Nelson Tasman community groups, clubs, organisations and services.
- Empowering Signposters: Signposters are caring members of the community who help reach those who are hard to reach. Informed about Talking Cafés and trained to use the Found Directory, Signposters inform friends, family, colleagues and neighbours about how to access services and information that might help them find what they are looking for in their community, improving their social connectedness.
Wellby is a community-led project with the aim of enhancing and strengthening human connections across Nelson Tasman. Addressing social isolation and loneliness leads to a more resilient community.
A steering group for Wellby meets regularly and includes representatives from a diverse cross section of the community, including: Whanake Youth, Multicultural Nelson-Tasman, Nelson Tasman Pasifika Community Trust, Nelson Bays Primary Health, Nelson Marlborough Health, Nelson City Council, Tasman District Council and Department of Internal Affairs Te Tari Taiwhenua. Wellby is currently funded by a grant from the Lottery Covid-19 Community Wellbeing Fund.
