Trash Palace is one of Tākaka’s best loved institutions and tourist attractions – a local second hand clothing shop that has been in operation for 30 plus years.

Forget the houses of Versace and Gucci – Golden Bay fashionistas do most of their haute couture shopping at Trash Palace!

​Trash Palace is staffed exclusively by volunteers and currently has a team of thirteen very dedicated staff.  One of the current volunteers has been there for 26 years, and some others have put in 20 plus years service.

We welcome donations of:

• ​clothing
• bedding
• footware
• kitchenware
• bric-à-brac and
• other household items.

Unfortunately we cannot accept:

• electrical items (safety reasons)
• large items like beds and mattresses
• magazines

Unsaleable clothing (ripped, stained etc) is turned into clean, pre-cut rags for sale at $10 per black rubbish bag.

Unfortunately, we do end up with lots of unsaleable items that must be thrown away, and about one month’s worth of profits per year are spent on rubbish disposal, so please be mindful of everything you are donating.

All proceeds are donated to the community – Trash Palace supports many worthy causes.

Trash Palace is plastic bag free!  Instead we use Boomerang Bags from Boomerang Bag Mohua – a global, grassroots movement to reduce the use of single use plastic bags.
