The Nelson Women’s Club, founded 26th July 1926, is Nelson’s historic women’s club located at the top of Trafalgar Street. 2026 is the Club’s Centenary year, and Club members are enjoying a number of special events throughout this auspicious year.
Being part of the Nelson Women’s Club is a great way to meet new people, and we invite you to contact us by email or phone if you are interested in joining. Many of the Founding Club members’ descendants continue as members today.
The Purpose of the Nelson Women’s Club is for women of all ages to gather at informal social and club events. Members can enjoy Club social occasions, with a licensed bar, and an annual programme of Club Circles:
- Bridge Circle – very popular and was the first Club Circle to form in 1926.
- Garden Group – visiting gardens, learning how to grow food and flowers.
- Art & About – monthly trips to galleries and other interesting places.
- Literary Circle – book discussions, visiting authors.
- Mahjong – fun and easy to learn.
- Keep Fit – gentle, enjoyable fitness class to start the week.
- Drama – a great chance to meet a new and reinvented self.
- Craft Group – fabulously creative in so many areas.
- Wednesday Social – something different each month.
- Movie Club – no need to attend movies alone, you have friends.
- Footloose Friday – a time to wind down twice a month over a drink.
Throughout the year, there are private and open club events where members participate with invitations extended to friends and partners – Cocktail Parties, High Teas, Musical evenings.
The Club Balcony – a great space to meet up, enjoy watching the world go by: action on Trafalgar Street and the Cathedral steps. It is especially joyful during Nelson City events such as the Christmas Eve Carol Singing, New Year’s Eve, Nelson City live stage music, and events like The Spectacle.
The Club Library – a quiet, cosy space to relax, read, have laptop time, and hold private meetings.
The Club is also available for Members to arrange private events.
