NCWNZ was formed in 1896.  The first President was Kate Sheppard who led the campaign for women’s suffrage.  It remains an apolitical, non religious women’s advocacy organisation through a network of affiliated national organisations, branches and individuals.

Nelson branch meets on the third Wednesday of the month February to November.

Every year International Women’s Day, Founders Day and Suffrage Day are honoured.
