Nelson Summer Kite Festival is an annual event held in January at Neale Park, Nelson.

Kitefliers come from all over New Zealand and overseas to fly their amazing kite creations.  A family friendly event that was started in 1992 by Ted and Gretchen Howard of Rainbow Flight and now with the Nelson Kite Club.

Volunteers are very welcome to help over the weekend.

Come and enjoy the best provincial New Zealand kite festival on one of the best urban kite fields in the world!  Situated at Neale Park in front of Nelson city, down at the edge of the water.  When that summer northerly sea breeze kicks in, enjoy very smooth flying conditions!  Hosted by the Nelson Kite Club.

This is a 3 day festival.  Set up on Friday, kitefliers arrive, warmup/socialize. Saturday and Sunday are both the big public display days with food stalls, kites stall, kite buggy rides, face painter, balloon twister and sound system.

Donations appreciated to keep this event going.
