Diwali means ‘row of lights’ in Sanskrit (an ancient Indian language).

The festival originated in India and marks the New Year’s begining. Although Diwali is largely an Indian festival, it is widely celebrated in other countries including Malaysia, Singapore, Nepal and Fiji.

More than 800 million people celebrate this festival and this year Nelson is celebrating too.

We are welcoming everyone to come and experience the traditional Indian culture. Watch live performances, taste an array of Indian delicacies (all vegetarian), participate in party games, or try on Indian outfits to embrace the traditional look. We will also showcase rangoli art and decor from our diverse culture. And not to miss the best part- No festival could be complete without bhangra and bollywood dance.

This is a no alcohol and smoke-free, family-friendly festival and will have gold coin entry.
