The church of St. John the Evangelist is a landmark in the Valley of Hira it has stood at Nelson’s front door for more than 120 years and is part of the Atawhai/Hira Parish.

As an Evangelical parish we seek to teach God’s word, giving the Bible it’s true authority among us.  We believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, and he came to minister, died and rose again for our sins.  We desire to see people discipled and grow by the Word and Spirit of God.  It is one of our aims to see those in our community come to faith by hearing God’s good news to is in Jesus.
