Acoustic Routes Nelson is a not-for-profit music club whose mission is to promote Folk and Acoustic Music in Nelson. We bring guest performers to our concerts from Nelson, New Zealand and overseas and we offer opportunities for local performers to take part in our concerts.

Another aspect of our club is to set up opportunities for Nelson people to get involved in music in a way that is low-pressure and enjoyable. Some of these things are organised by us and other bits are organised by others but promoted through our contacts.

Our own events include:

Regular club concerts on the second Sunday each month except January.  These are run at Yaza Cafe.  They start at 7.30pm and each concert features a couple of local warm-up acts and then an hour long set from our Guest performer for that evening.  Door cost is usually $8 members and $12 non-members though this can vary with overseas guests.

Our other regular event is a Join-in Singing Session.  This is a no-pressure community sing-a-long session and we provide all the words for the songs and Guitarists who leads the singing.  It is not a choir and we welcome both regular and casual visitors to this.  The whole point is to have fun singing – we all sing the tune – and everyone goes home smiling!  We sing song ranging from old trad folk through to pop songs of the 50s 60s 70s 80s 90s and noughties.

The  venue  is also Yaza Cafe, in Montgomery Square, Nelson City and the date is  the last Sunday in the month – 7pm to 9pm.  Anyone keen to come along is welcome to ring Anna 0212952497 for up to date info. Cost is by Koha jar to cover the cost of venue hire only.

Other events that we assist with the promotion of include:  Concerts at various venues and regular jam sessions around town.
