Top of the South Neighbourhood Support Charitable Trust was formed in July 2020.  With over 20 years experience it brings together well established neighbourhood support groups  assisting communities in Marlborough, Nelson and Tasman into one regionally managed and locally coordinated organisation.

Our membership includes people in over 6,000 households.  We are a ‘team of everyone’ – where every member in the neighbourhood is welcome and valued.

​We are community-led, and take our inspiration for projects and events from our members and the neighbourhoods they live in.

We offer free local workshops to help our members be more connected, resilient and safe.  We send out regular information and updates, including safety messages from NZ Police related to local streets and neighbourhoods.

We partner with local organisations such Multicultural Nelson Tasman, Age Concern Nelson, Volunteer Marlborough and Volunteer Nelson to provide access to events and initiatives that improve social connectedness and cohesion.

We work alongside Police, Civil Defence and Fire and Emergency to help neighbourhoods to improve safety and be prepared for emergencies. We provide free access to the Gets Ready tool.

We are proud members of the national and international movement to support neighbourhoods to form safe, resilient and connected communities.

​Being involved in Neighbourhood Support comes in many shapes and forms.

Members don’t need to join a group, but it’s more fun if they do! Groups can meet regularly or as needed, staying connected online or by email. There might be a local issue they want to tackle like creating a playground, starting a compost collective or slowing down traffic on suburban streets. Or they may want to meet once or twice to write a street resilience plan to be more prepared in the event of an emergency.

Some members host street shared barbecues or social events, volunteer as a contact for their street, undertake neighbourhood projects, or build local resources. Some just catch up once and a while with a neighbour at the letterbox. There are no expectations – whatever works best for you and your community!
