GrandFriends is a programme run by Surrogate Grandparents New Zealand Charitable Trust to provide social, caring connections for families around New Zealand.
A “GrandFriend” can be anyone, of any age who is interested in increasing their social connections and building a “village” around themselves and their families.
Surrogate Grandparents New Zealand was set up to provide intergenerational connections and to alleviate social isolation and loneliness by finding grandparents for families who may not have them for their children, and whilst this is still very much our focus, we have also evolved over the last three years. We have seen that the problem is much wider than this and people of all ages are looking for connections. We have single people in their 30s, aunties, uncles and teens wanting to give back, so we have now rebranded as “GrandFriends” to embrace this need in our communities of New Zealand.
