The Golden Bay branch is committed to working alongside Tasman District Council to achieve better outcomes for our shorebirds. In principle the Department of Conservation supports our initiatives to provide better protection for shorebirds, namely:
- Protection of our migratory birds, our wading birds and our penguins from harassment and death by both vehicles and dogs.
- Protection of special habitats currently under threat – habitats these birds rely on to feed, to breed and to rest.
Our concerns include – harassment and death of wildlife, damage to sensitive environments, noise pollution, public safety and the rights members of the public have to use the coastal marine area for passive recreation.
