Description

The Nelson Rock & Mineral Club is the only organisation in the Tasman region where you can learn about geology, learn the names of rocks and how to read the terrain. Our aim is to satisfy all interests in the geoscience area whether it be collecting specimens of rocks and fossils, cutting and polishing rocks, collecting minerals or general interest in earth science. Club meetings start at 7.30pm on the 3rd Thursday of the month at the Richmond Library, meeting room adjacent to the main door on Queen's St. Field trips are normally run the Sunday (sometimes Saturday) after the club meeting. On longer weekends we may go further afield for the long weekend, to places such as Kaikoura, Canterbury or the West Coast. We have a shed set up with all the equipment necessary to cut and polish your own jewellery or display rock specimens. As a member you can use all the equipment for a small fee to cover costs. Non members can also use the equipment under supervision. Please phone the Secretary for details.
