Description

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul Vinnies caters for young people aged between 11 – 30+ years of age. There are presently 6 Vinnies groups in the Nelson region. These groups are based in Nelson, Richmond, Motueka and as far afield as Reefton. The Vinnies programme provides young people with the opportunity to get together socially, have lots of fun and make a positive difference in the community by using their time and talent to help other people. Comments by young people who have been involved in the Vinnies programme include... “I became a Vinnie because I really wanted to try new things. My teacher at school explained that Vinnies was about getting out there and helping other people. I thought I’d give it a go and it was great! It’s made me a lot more understanding of others and taught me to stop and consider what’s happened in the lives of people who are in need.” Bonnie Macgregor “Being part of the In-Vince-ables (Male Vinnie’s group) gave me an opportunity to hang out with my friends a lot and do fun stuff. The work we do is interesting and it makes you feel good when you do things for other people. Something that I’ve got out of being an In-Vince-able are skills in developing better teamwork.” Liam Gill
