Description

The Nelson Women's Centre is home to three community groups who work closely together:

WOMEN IN NELSON: focusing on community action & community development for women.

NELSON WOMEN'S SUPPORT: providing practical social work support, advocacy, counselling and educational groups.

SEXUAL ABUSE SUPPORT & HEALING (SASH): providing support, advocacy and counselling for women who've experienced rape or sexual abuse.

Highlights:
* The old villa at 44 Trafalgar St. was purchased in 1996 by Women in Nelson, thanks to a strong, community-supported fundraising effort. This gives us an easily accessible, central, permanent location.
* The Nelson Women's Centre won the 2005 Truspower Award in the Health & Wellbeing Category for excellence in community services.
* The10-year anniversary of the Nelson Women's Centre at 44 Trafalgar Street was celebrated in December 2006.
* The Women's Centre was badly damaged by a fire in 2007, but wonderful community support enabled us to fully repair the place, and even to upgrade rooms that had not yet been renovated. Come see us now, we're in really good shape!
